JEFFERSON COUNTY—From 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 through 6 p.m. Thursday, May 4, crews will close US Highway (US) 6 through Clear Creek Canyon as part of construction on the Peaks to Plains Trail project. The closure will start at the intersection of US 6 and Colorado Highway (CO) 119 on the west, and continue to the intersection of US 6, CO 58 and CO 93 on the east, in Golden.
During the closure, crews will re-align and pave a section of US 6 to accommodate a new 50-car parking lot for the Big Easy trailhead near mile point (MP) 262.5. Simultaneously, crews will install a steel bridge over Clear Creek.
The full highway closure is the safest and most efficient way to assemble and permanently place the bridges. Access to and from Black Hawk and Central City will still be available via a detour.

The Ameristar is the biggest casino in Black Hawk. The most “Vegasy” casino in Black Hawk, The Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk has 1,250 slots, 40 table games, and a 22 table poker room. Set up on the hill overlooking the town (but still within easy walking distance), The Ameristar has 536 hotel room, a spa, and rooftop pool.
Detour
Motorists can use I-70 as detour eastbound and westbound. Access to and from the casinos will still be available via the detour.
Work is weather dependent. In case of inclement weather, this closure will occur the following week on Wednesday and Thursday at the same time.
'The closure allows for not only the fourth bridge installation, but also development of the Big Easy recreation area, which will include several new amenities,' says Scot Grossman, planner and research coordinator for Jefferson County Open Space. 'We appreciate the community's patience and look forward to completing these new additions.'
The Peaks to Plains Trail will remain open during the road closure and will be accessible only through the Clear Creek County trailhead in Golden.

While the amenities our customers have come to know and love may be limited, for the time being, the ability to safely welcome our team members and guests remain our top priority. With this in mind, we have been working closely with the Governor's office, Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission, and Gilpin County public health officials to implement comprehensive health and safety protocols. Our team members are trained on these procedures and our guests will see reminder signage about them throughout the property. These new protocols include, but are not limited to, the following:
- (KFOR) – Two Oklahoma casinos are closed after a gaming employee tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Sac & Fox Nation, the Black Hawk Casino in Shawnee and the Sac.
- In response to the new level, casinos in Black Hawk and Central City will no longer provide blackjack, poker, roulette and craps will be prohibited until the threat level is reduced.
Social Distancing
- We will limit capacity on our gaming floor in accordance to state guidelines.
- Floor decals and signage is installed to strictly enforce social distancing guidelines in areas where lines typically form.
- The number of slot machines available will be limited.
- Table games are not offered at this time.
- Live music, entertainment, convention, and banquet services will remain suspended.
- There will be no large drawings, tournaments, or special events.
- Restaurant offerings will be limited and available from Fireside Kitchen (open daily), Timberline Steakhouse (Thursday – Sunday), Waypost Deli (open daily), the Asian Station in Centennial Buffet (Friday & Saturday) and Starbucks.
- Club 38 is open (Thursday - Sunday).
- Valet is closed.
- The Gift Shop is closed.
- The hotel is open with limited capacity.
- ara Spa is open and offers massage and facial services.
Health & Safety

- Team members and vendors are required to wear masks and undergo a health screening twice each day, including temperature checks.
- Guests are required to wear a mask and will undergo and complete a health screening each day, including temperature checks, prior to entering the casino.
- Slot machines are thoroughly and regularly cleaned throughout the day.
- Sanitizer stations are installed on the casino floor and are readily available throughout the facility.
